with Kelly Reardon
1 Hour Webinar Training
PRESENTATION: The core function of assessment requires that the counselor or person doing the assessment:
Be knowledgeable about the signs and symptoms of substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders;
- Skillful and thorough in obtaining, reviewing and evaluating the client’s history;
- Accurate in making a preliminary diagnosis utilizing the DSM-5
Assessment is not a static moment in the treatment process. It begins in the screening interview and continues throughout treatment. Assessment ultimately defines the client’s treatment plan.
Participants will be able to:
- Identify characteristics of substance use disorders
- Identify co-occurring mental health problems associated with substance use
- Understand Global Criteria associated with the core function of assessment
- Describe assessment procedures and commonly used assessment tools
- Describe ASAM-6 Dimensions
