DESCRIPTION OF THE PRESENTATION: In order to achieve and sustain change in a community, coalitions must effectively engage community members and build their capacity to do the work. This workshop focuses on building coalition organizational capacity to engage community members in doing the work necessary to implement comprehensive strategies that create safe and healthy communities. Building on the notion of “form follows function”, the coalitions will be able to examine the work that needs to be done (function) and examine ways to build their organization’s capacity (form) to recruit and sustain community members’ involvement in the effort. The interactive workshop includes a variety of tools and techniques enabling coalition leaders to assess their own coalitions and identify ways to build their coalition capacity. Supplemental worksheets and resources will also be provided. As a result of attending this training, participants will be able to:
- Describe the role of a coalition in achieving community-level change;
- Assess and enhance their coalition’s capacity to build membership and organizational structure;
- Engage community members in the work of the coalition;
- Create action plans to engage their coalitions to build capacity and engage their communities; and
- Network with others in New Hampshire
