PRESENTATION: Recovery Coaching is a peer-based recovery support service that is non-clinical and designed to engage others beyond recovery initiation through stabilization and into recovery maintenance. Similar peer interventions in clinical settings have been shown to improve engagement and retention of people seeking services. It is also known that long-term treatment and/or recovery outcomes are improved by assertive linkages to community-based recovery supports such as Recovery Coaching. This training will focus on how to help to initiate and sustain an individual/family in their recovery from substance use disorder or addiction; Promote recovery by removing barriers and obstacles to recover; Serve as a personal guide and mentor for people seeking, or already in recovery. CCAR Recovery Coach Academy© participants will be able to: Describe Recovery Coach role and functions; List the components, core values and guiding principles of recovery; Build skills to enhance relationships; Explore many dimensions of recovery and recovery coaching; Discover attitudes about self-disclosure and sharing your story; Understand the stages of recovery; Describe the stages of change and their applications; Increase their awareness of culture, power and privilege; Address ethical and boundaries issues; Experience recovery wellness planning; and Practice newly acquired skills.
PRESENTER: Ginger, a native from NH, was trained at the CCAR Academy in March of 2015 by Jim Wuelfing (developer of the CCAR model) and Cheryle, as a trainer. She has also been certified to train the Connect Suicide Prevention Training, as well as a trainer for the CCAR 2 day Ethics for Recovery Coaches. Identifying the need for an HIV training, to help folks meet the CRSW requirements for NH, Ginger researched and developed an HIV/AIDS training for Recovery Support Workers. Ginger received her CRSW credential in May, 2017 and is a recent graduate of SNHU with a BA in Forensic Psychology. She sits on the Governor’s Recovery Task Force. Ginger is a strong advocate for the recovery community and works hand in hand with recovery support workers to ensure they receive the appropriate training necessary to best serve the recovery community.
