with Kelly Reardon
1 Hour Webinar Training

PRESENTATION:  The core function of assessment requires that the counselor or person doing the assessment:

Be knowledgeable about the signs and symptoms of substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders;

  • Skillful and thorough in obtaining, reviewing and evaluating the client’s history;
  • Accurate in making a preliminary diagnosis utilizing the DSM-5

Assessment is not a static moment in the treatment process. It begins in the screening interview and continues throughout treatment. Assessment ultimately defines the client’s treatment plan.

Participants will be able to:

  • Identify characteristics of substance use disorders
  • Identify co-occurring mental health problems associated with substance use
  • Understand Global Criteria associated with the core function of assessment
  • Describe assessment procedures and commonly used assessment tools
  • Describe ASAM-6 Dimensions
