Optimizing Care for Mothers & Babies Affected by Substances: Summit to Address Plans of Safe Care in New Hampshire

  • January 29, 2019
  • 9:30 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Grappone Conference Center, 70 Constitution Ave, Concord, NH.

A 5.5 hour free event sponsored by the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation

This event seeks to review and clarify implementation pathways including related to processes, reporting, and other considerations for NH’s Plans of Safe Care among multidisciplinary professionals. Participants will have the opportunity to learn how others are working successfully with families, as well as explore gaps and challenges, and identify areas needing further clarification, through case studies facilitated by an expert panel in conjunction with multidisciplinary group discussions.

Per federal requirements, Plans of Safe Care must be developed for all infants affected by prenatal drug or fetal alcohol exposure in order to support mothers, babies and their families. In 2018, legislation2 was passed in New Hampshire to ensure compliance with this federal law. NH has been in the process of understanding and developing policies and pathways to support and enhance the well-being of infants, mothers and families while recognizing that the federal and state law changes may affect treatment and service providers who provide health care as well as those who provide social and legal supports. Plans of Safe Care will provide an opportunity for increased coordination and support for families and create clear and consistent practices among providers.

INTENDED AUDIENCE:

OB/GYN, hospital delivery and other healthcare providers; substance use disorder treatment professionals; early supports and service providers (home visiting, DCYF, early head start); pediatric providers; family resource center staff; and other medical and family support professionals and family lawyers and judges.

COST:

FREE with breakfast and lunch provided.
