PRESENTATION:  This training is designed for clinicians at any skill level to explore and understand the pathological qualities unique to the Internet and its evolving hazards. During this training, participants will learn the brief history of the Internet and its likely future. Special emphasis will be placed on the co-occurring nature of Mental Health disorders and how the internet is being abused to negatively support these issues. Dangers to health, privacy, ethics, safety and child development will be explored. This new and powerful tool is affecting all of us in unpredicted and sometimes pathological ways. Our clients are living their lives on the Internet; we need to know what this means for them, and their recoveries.  As a result of attending this training participants will:

  • Learn the developmental issues associated with growing up in a wired world.
  • Learn how some pathologies have flourished as a result of being connected.
  • Understand the potential and reality of Internet Addiction.
  • Describe their own experiences with the dangers of the Internet.
  • Explore the arena available to the antisocial personality.
  • Review the Ethical dangers of accessing the World Wide Web.
  • Delve into the perverse reality of the Dark Web.
  • Learn what not to do when using the Internet.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:  Joseph has 32 years of experience working with mental health and addiction issues. He specializes in helping people with Anxiety issues, Recovery from Addictions, and Eating Disorders. He is the Clinical Director of the ASIST program for Family Reentry in Bridgeport, and was the Director of the Renfrew Center of Southern Connecticut for five years specializing in treating clients with Eating Disorders. He is on the faculty of the New England Institute of Addiction Studies for 16 years teaching on neurobiology, recovery issues and ethics. With Clinical and Administrative skills and in his work as a professional educator he has unique qualifications to assist both clinicians and clients. Joseph is also in private practice in Fairfield County, CT.

NH Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselors Association has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider. ACEP No 6754. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. NHADACA is solely responsible for all aspects of the program.
