PRESENTATION: The purpose of this training is to highlight the extent of misperceptions about what constitutes “low-risk” vs. “high-risk” alcohol consumption. Make no mistake, we are in the midst of an alcohol epidemic.  And there is a strong relationship with Opioid use.  Social drinking has increased dramatically since the early 1990s, accompanied by a similar increase in problem drinking and alcohol use disorder, especially among women and minorities. The alcohol-related death rate for women increased 85% from 2007 to 2017! This training will address current trends, binge drinking, and Severe AUD.   As well as assessment and treatment including Medicated assisted treatment for AUD, such as Antabuse, Naltrexone and other medications.

As a result of attending this training participants will be able to:

·         Identify the current trend in alcohol Use disorder from mild to severe

·         Discuss the neurobiology in the development of an AUD

·         List the medical consequences of acute and chronic AUD

·         Describe the assessment criteria for determining appropriate level of care for the management of alcohol withdrawal

·         Review best practices for aftercare and continued recovery
