PRESENTATION: Counseling is learning and utilizing special skills and techniques to help individuals in achieving their objectives through exploration of a problem and its consequences; examination of attitudes and feelings, and alternative ways of appropriately making decisions. Counseling is at the heart of treatment and motivation, empowering and guiding is essential from the counselor to assist and bring forth client’s effort to change.

As a result of this training participants will:

1. Understand the need for effective treatment planning
2. Understand the global criteria associated with this core function
3. Describe group counseling principles
4. Learn techniques associated with different stages of change
5. Understand the characteristics of an effective counselor
