A 6 hour training event with Rev. Dr. Beverly Prestwood-Taylor & Kevin Lambert

PRESENTATION: This workshop will provide an introduction to the definition, identification and treatment of moral injury. We will define moral injury from multiple perspectives, identify the context, and differentiate between Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, moral injury and other kinds of soul wounds. We will identify the role of shame and describe several methods of treating moral injury. Additional resources will be provided. U.S. Army veteran Kevin Lambert will integrate his knowledge with his own experience of moral injury and his healing path. As a result of this training, participant will be able to:
- Define and describe moral injury and differentiate it from traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress and other soul wounds;
- Understand the role of shame, the hidden nature of moral injury and the challenges for healing; and
- Learn several approaches to healing moral injury and the benefits and challenges of each.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Rev. Dr. Beverly Prestwood-Taylor, M.Div, DMin : Founder/Executive Director of Brookfield Institute, served as a pastor in local congregations for almost 40 years. Her doctorate focusing on community education in trauma healing has enabled her to teach over 100 workshops nationally and internationlly. She is a certified STAR trainer (Strategies for Trauma Awareness and Resilience) and has been working with veterans for 14 years, particularly in understanding how veterans heal from the spiritual wounds of war.
Kevin Lambert is the Program Development Administrator at NEADS, World Class Service Dogs, focusing on the Service Dogs for Veterans programs. Mr. Lambert served as the Director of Special Populations Programs and Services for the Massachusetts Department of Veterans’ Services from 2007 to 2015. He assisted with the creation, implementation, and management of several community-based Peer Support programs for Veterans and their families including Suicide Prevention, Housing First, Supportive Housing, Jail Diversion, and Re-entry from incarceration facilities. Mr. Lambert served in the United States Army as an Infantryman from 2005-2008 and participated in over 600 combat patrols and missions as a light machine gunner in IRAQ from August 2005 through December 2006. He was a recipient of the Army Commendation for Valor. Mr. Lambert has an Associate's Degree in Science Human Services degree as well as a Certificate in Alcohol/Drug Abuse Counseling from Northern Essex Community College.
