A 6 hour training event with Malcolm Horn, PhD, LCSW, MAC

9:00am – 4:00pm on October 9, 2020

This training is remote only!

PRESENTATION:  Substance Use Providers need to abide by two different sets of federal regulations, 42 CFR Part 2 and HIPAA.  The regulations however, vary and at times disagree.  This session will provide an overview of both regulations and how they differ.  Participants will discuss these differences both in theory and practice so that new and seasoned substance use providers have the tools they need to best communicate with other entities, individuals and agencies.  Techniques for applying Part 2 rules when working with non-Part 2 providers and how best to facilitate these working relationships will be a component of discussions and scenarios throughout the training. This workshop is created to meet the LADC/MLADC 6-hour confidentiality education requirement.  It is additionally applicable to other substance use providers such as Certified Recovery Support Workers and Certified Prevention Specialists needing to understand and apply these federal regulations. As a result of thie training:

  • Participants will learn the fundamental differences and what they look like in practice;
  • Participants will learn techniques to utilize Part 2 rules when working with non- Part 2 providers and how to better facilitate these working relationships; and
  • Participants will discuss real-life scenarios and identify how to navigate different Part 2 situations.
