PRESENTATION: This web based training will explore the many ethical and legal concepts and issues associated with counseling and maintaining confidentiality. Client’s rights and what may or may not be disclosed is far more complex than CFR 42 part 2. What happens to confidentiality when you have chart audits, insurance inspections, legal actions? A counselor is sure they have confidentiality in the communications with their clients. But not all communications are confidential, and not all counselors are covered. Do you know if your licensure guarantees confidentiality?  We will explain and clarify how the law and ethics converge to balance the rights of the individual, the therapist and society. As a result of this training participants will:

  • Learn how Federal and State laws may vary on Confidentiality;

  • Gain an understanding of how your licensure and level of training affects a client’s rights;

  • Review the times and events that may cause you to broach confidentiality;

  • Understand the times when communications are not confidential; and

  • Learn how to explain to your clients what are their rights, and when they are not covered.
