This training is for NH Drug Court Providers/Staff only. Please use code provided to register.

This training is intended to be a second part to the Overview of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy training on 6/23/2022. However, those who have a solid understanding of DBT principles or those who have taken overview courses previously are invited to attend this training without attending the first day, if needed. Please be aware that this training is intended for those with a base understanding of these principles.

PRESENTATION: Dialectical Behavior Therapy was developed by Marsha Linehan, PhD. to help individuals who struggle with emotional, behavioral, and interpersonal chaos and dysregulation.  DBT is a cognitive behavioral approach that helps individuals create a more stable life.  This training will provide an overview of the theoretical underpinnings, structure of a DBT program, treatment targets in addition to review of skills taught in the DBT framework. Following this presentation, participants will be able to: 


  • Understand the theory which lead to the unique approach of DBT;
  • Learn the targets established in treatment in addition to strategies for managing behaviors which “get in the way” of effective therapy; and
  • Learn how to teach and incorporate the key skills of DBT (Core Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Distress Tolerance, and Emotion Regulation).

APPROXIMATE SCHEDULE:

                8:30am-9:45am: Distress Tolerance, DBT Substance Abuse, Clear Mind

                9:45am-10am: Break

                10am-11am: Interpersonal Effectiveness Skills

                11am-12pm: Lunch (on your own)

                12pm-2:30pm: Individual therapy components, using target in treatment

                2:30pm-2:45pm: Break

                2:45-4pm: Managing therapy interfering behavior, using Behavioral Analysis

                4pm: End


ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Dr. Laurie Brodeur, a licensed clinical psychologist, was trained by Dr. Linehan when DBT was first developed almost 30 years ago.  Dr. Brodeur has provided mental health care for decades in community mental health and private practice settings.  Since learning DBT, she has consistently used this approach to help clients who present with highly dysregulated behaviors and mood to learn how use DBT skills to create more stable lives and relationships.   Dr. Brodeur has provided numerous DBT trainings and consulted with many teams on program development and implementation.
