Substance Use Disorder Clinician

Innovative outpatient treatment center in the Lakes Region serving individuals with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders is seeking an experienced counselors to join our treatment team working in the Belknap County Department of Corrections with inmates with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorder. Work with a strong team of counselors in a supportive environment that encourages collaboration and professional growth. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, individual and group counseling with offenders sentenced to the CORE Program, participate in post discharge follow up planning and deliver continuing/follow-up care to individuals leaving the facility during a period of strict follow-up supervision.
The Substance Use Disorder Clinician will work as part of a treatment team and answer directly to the Programs Director of the Belknap County Department of Corrections for administrative and operational issues.
Assessment and diagnosis of substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders.
Work with clients in the program to develop time limited, measurable and attainable treatment plans.
Provide individual and group counseling and education to individuals in the program using evidence based practices and curricula implemented by the Department of Corrections and the treatment team.
Work cooperatively with other members of the treatment team and with correctional officers to ensure that participants’ goals are met.
Maintain timely clinical record keeping including the maintenance of paper and computerized documentation as required.
Prepare comprehensive clinical evaluations and reports.
Become familiar with local and state-wide agencies, treatment and other health care services and make appropriate referrals for continuing care as program participants prepare to exit the facility.
Counsel, assist, support and provide advocacy for all participants as needed.
Some evening hours and after hours on-call required.
Other duties as assigned by the Programs Director and the Clinical Supervisor.
A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, counseling, human services or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years experience delivering substance use disorder counseling. A masters degree may be substituted for one year of experience.
LADC, MLADC preferred.
Strong assessment and diagnostic skills.
Good writing skills and attention to detail.
Must be able to work independently.
Must be able to collaborate with other professionals within the agency and in the surrounding community.
Must be able to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, including non-clinical and correctional staff.
Must have the knowledge, skills and experience to identify community resources necessary to support the recovery process of CORE clients preparing for re-entry into the community.
Should have skill and experience in delivering evidence based treatment to adults, with understanding of and experience with the offender population and the criminal justice system preferred.
Must have good communication skills, strong boundaries, the ability to set limits and manage people under stress.
Skill in Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and trauma-informed treatment practices required. Familiarity with the “A New Directions”, “Seeking Safety” and “Thinking 4 Change” curricula helpful.
