On behalf of the Raymond Coalition for Youth and our Board of Directors I want to personally thank Hannaford for a very generous donation of $30,000!!!
Hannaford Supermarkets invested in RCFY when we first became a nonprofit in 2004. They were actually our first donation and it gave us the capacity to reach out into our community and build ongoing relationships with people who continue to support our Youth and give them a voice.
These relationships have led to putting many successful strategies in place to keep our youth and families better connected to the community. Some of these include Youth Action Groups at both middle and high school, Project Safeguard, Operation Raymond Cleanup and most recently our Heroin Drug Task Force.
Prevention work does not just address substance misuse, bullying or suicide risk. It is not one program or one activity. Most importantly, it is not provided by one person, one organization or one group.
Prevention work takes everyone: law enforcement, schools, Health Care, business, Faith groups, parents, town and state government and we strongly believe our Youth.
Prevention work connects our citizens and helps them to become invested in the place they live, work and play.
Simply put……Prevention works builds strong communities!
In addition to RCFY Hannaford generously supported End 68 Hours of Hunger and several food banks in our community. We extend a very big congratulations to them as well.
I want to share a short story that expresses the value of our partnerships and all of us working together.
A young man recently came into the town hall just before closing on a warm Monday afternoon.
He wanted to know if there was a food bank in the area. Being Monday I gave him directions to the Community Table at the Raymond Baptist Church. They offer a great meal free to all who attend, with food generously donated by the Tuckaway Tavern and Hannaford. I also gave him a RCFY resource guide and pointed out some places he could call in the morning for additional support.
The next day I connected with the church to find out that he in fact did make it over. He had a nice dinner, enjoyed the company of the other guests and was given food to take with him to last for a few days.
This is our community. This is multiple people working together, volunteering and sharing resources to make a difference.
I thank you for your involvement with the Raymond Coalition For Youth and for being a part of the great work that we do. Hannaford chose to donate this money to RCFY because we are able to show results with the programming, networking and relationships that are so valuable to our work.
Thanks to our partnership with the schools we are able to track Youth Risk Behavior Survey results that show that our substance misuse rates are coming down. Youth are not experimenting with substances at such a young age and adults are becoming more aware that our Youth want to make good choices
Our youth are our future and need many caring adults in their life to help them succeed.
We are very grateful to Hannaford for their ongoing support and this very, very generous donation.
