NHADACA is excited to announce the passage of Senate Bill 44, effective 10-3-2023.

This law has the following impact:

    1. The scope of practice for an MLADC now includes mental health counseling with or without co-occurring disorders. This change will greatly help improve access to mental health counseling services.

    2. For certified recovery support workers, you are now required to have 24 hours of approved continuing education in the 24 months subsequent to the date of certification or recertification; this increases the educational requirement to be in line with the IC&RC recertification requirement for peer support.

    3. A master’s degree in Human Services has been removed as an automatically accepted option towards MLADC licensure.   Candidates with a master’s degree in human services that include a clinical internship are still eligible to apply as an equivalent degree.

The International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium (IC &RC) regularly updates the Job Analysis on which examinations are based, according to industry standards, in collaboration with their contracted testing company. This helps to ensure examinations remain current with changes in the field and are psychometrically sound and legally defensible.

The IC & RC is looking for help from professionals working as Master Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors (MLADC) to complete a survey. This survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and can be found here.

The deadline to complete the survey is Friday, May 26, 2023.
