PRESENTATION: This is training for clinicians and other service providers interested in improving their skills & increasing knowledge to assist methamphetamine & other stimulant users in the recovery process. Due to the severity and the (sometimes) extended time of withdrawal, substitution with alcohol and other drugs is common. Professional tools/techniques will be presented that may assist recovery outcomes. User friendly, client handouts identifying some of the principles of recovery and pitfalls associated with relapse, will be provided to assist clinicians in supporting client recovery. Participants will be able to:

List effects of methamphetamine use & related recovery challenges;

Assist clients in recognizing relapse as a process rather than an event as well as identify relapse related replacement behaviors;

Apply at least one treatment tools specific to effective methamphetamine treatment; and

Recognize areas of hope for positive neurological changes leading to normalization of function following significant methamphetamine use.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Pamela Morgan, MBA/BSHS/CADC/CPRM is a nationally known trainer and substance use professional - providing services since 1993. She is the owner of Key Insights, LLC., an approved professional development training provider with the Michigan Certification Board of Addiction Professionals. Pamela has also provided trainings approved by certification boards in Iowa and Georgia. A published author on toxic relationships, Pamela is best known for her interactive training style and her training-Toxic Relationships: Another Addiction. She has developed various trainings with topics including: Ethics, Boundaries & Confidentiality; Addiction to Crime; Enhancing Motivation for Change; Recovery, Relapse and the 12 Steps; and Addiction in the Church. With 29 years of personal recovery, over 23 years of experience working within treatment, prevention, correctional and adolescent populations, and more than 19 years providing professional development training, Morgan offers a wealth of personal and professional experience.
