A 6-hour training with Dr. Joanne Malloy

April 8, 2024

8:30am-4pm

PRESENTATION: This 6-hour course will provide participants with an introduction to person-centered, enhanced care coordination (ECC), with a specific emphasis on families impacted by substance misuse and co-occurring challenges.  Unlike case management, ECC is a facilitated process where the coordinator partners with clients based on foundational principles such as person-centeredness, strengths-based care, and resilience. This course will use a mix of lecture, demonstration, video, and small group activities.

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • List at least 3 techniques to engage the child, youth, and family/caregiver;
  • Demonstrate how to work effectively with natural family support networks and peer supporters;
  • Describe the unique developmental needs young children and youth who have experienced trauma and who have emotional or behavioral challenges;
  • Demonstrate cultural humility; and
  • Describe structural inequality and implicit bias.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Dr. Malloy joined the staff of Institute on Disability (NH’s University Center for Excellence in Disability) in 1991 and has directed several state and federally-funded youth transition, employment, and dropout prevention projects with a focus on youth with emotional and behavioral disorders and implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and School Mental Health. In 1996, she developed a transition and career development planning model for youth with emotional and behavioral disorders, known as RENEW (Resilience, Empowerment, and Natural Supports for Education and Work). Dr. Malloy is the director of several project focused on supporting youth and young adults impacted by substance misuse, and published numerous articles and book chapters on services for youth with emotional disorders and adults with mental illness.
