PRESENTATION: This 6-hour training is designed for anyone seeking to supervise CRSWs. This training will provide the supervision guidance for CRSWs who would like to supervise other CRSWs as well as Recovery Performance Domain content for LADCs and MLADCs seeking to supervise CRSWs. The content of this training is based on information gained, situations encountered, and obstacles overcome when supervising recovery support workers in a variety of settings. This training will examine the roles and responsibilities of recovery support workers through the lens of the Performance Domains and how they can be similar and different than the roles of counselors. It will discuss the roles, obligations and responsibilities of supervisors working with recovery support workers as well as the ethical and legal parameters that define those roles. It will focus on the skills intrinsic to supervision and how they apply to both peer and clinical supervisors. Participants will be encouraged to examine their own understanding and beliefs about the role of CRSWs in the continuum of care, how the fit into clinical and non-clinical settings and what standards of care should or do apply to the profession of recovery specialist.
Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:
- Identify at least two challenges that recovery support workers face in the regular course of their work that may be more complicated to navigate than for counselors or other healthcare professionals;
- Explain their own personal biases and perceptions of the roles of the recovery support worker in the continuum of care;
- Explain the appropriate parameters and boundaries related to their own personal biases and perceptions in their role;
- Identify the role of the clinical supervisor in the guidance of recovery support workers in each of the Performance Domains;
- Identify the role of the peer supervisor in the guidance of recovery support workers in each of the Performance Domains; and
- Demonstrate how to incorporate lived experience and a focus on recovery capital in the supervisory relationship and process.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Jacqui Abikoff, LICSW, MLADC, is Executive Director of Horizons Counseling Center, an outpatient substance use and co-occurring disorders treatment and recovery center in the Lakes Region of NH. She has worked in program development in the area of criminal justice and trauma informed treatment, she was active in developing and administering the Recovery Court Program in Belknap County and in developing and implementing treatment programming for incarcerated populations. She has been a strong voice in the establishment of clinical and ethical practice standards in behavioral health on the state and national levels for over 30 years. Ms. Abikoff has chaired the Public Policy and Ethics Committees of the NH Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors Association and the NH Providers Association and she served on the NH Board of Licensing for Alcohol and Other Drug Use Professionals. She provides training and consultation on confidentiality, professional ethics, co-occurring disorders, suicide prevention, clinical supervision, and criminal justice programming for behavioral health providers, criminal justice and healthcare programs both locally and nationally.
