A 6-hour training with Ginger Ross, BA, CRSW, NCPRSS & Ron Bodendorf

April 15, 2024

8:30am-4:00pm

PRESENTATION: While helping individuals with SUDs recover, Peers inevitably confront many mental health concerns that the clients bring with them. These Co-Occurring Disorders (CODs) can significantly impact treatment compliance and outcomes. A lack of familiarity with mental health disorders and how they comingle with SUDs can confound the effectiveness of a Peers work and create additional unnecessary complications. This training aims to familiarize Peers with various mental health issues most commonly co-morbid with SUDs and clarify the Peer's role in working with these individuals to maximize success. This course also will introduce de-escalation skills and available mental wellness planning programs.

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Differentiate between mental health and mental illness;
  • Summarize at least 3 of the risk factors of behavioral health disorders;
  • Describe signs, symptoms, and supports of the most common diagnoses;
  • Describe how to apply crisis intervention strategies;
  • Demonstrate how to create wellness recovery plans for mental illness; and
  • Describe ways to identify a mental health crisis and how to respond – crisis intervention.
