PRESENTATION: This 90-minute interactive training is presented by Seacoast Outright, a NH based nonprofit that serves, supports, and advocates for LGBTQ+ youth. “Engaging with the LGBTQ+ Community” covers applicable terminology, the role of bias on mental health outcomes, and the importance of practicing active allyship. Presenters share practical strategies for supporting LGBTQ+ clients, families, and community members. Questions are encouraged throughout.
Following this training, participants will be able to:
- Explain general terms and concepts relevant to the LGBTQ+ community, including gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation;
- Describe discrimination on negative mental health outcomes and the importance of inclusion, particularly for youth; and
- Identify at least 2 strategies to support LGBTQ+ clients, coworkers, and community members in the workplace and beyond.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Jessica “Jess” Goff (she/her/hers) works as the Community Outreach and Education Coordinator at Seacoast Outright, a nonprofit organization that serves, supports, and advocates for LGBTQ+ youth in the Seacoast area of New Hampshire and beyond. As part of this role, she coordinates educational opportunities and events within the community that increase the visibility and inclusion of LGBTQ+ youth.
Jessica holds her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of New Hampshire and her Bachelor's degree in Human Development from Rivier University. She has worked within the nonprofit sector for the past six years and has continually sought to create intersectional safe spaces in her work with youth, unhoused folks, individuals with Developmental Disabilities, and the LGBTQ+ community. She is a lifelong NH resident and currently lives in Concord.
